Trading with Integrity with Andy Serotta at Logista

Andy Serotta is the founder, CIO, and general partner of Logista, a commodity fund with a one-of-a-kind strategy. Andy is also a civic leader and philanthropist supporting many worthy causes within the Jewish community.

“I established Logista way back in 2013. One of the things that I always warn people about trading is it's never an easy road. There will be ups and downs for various reasons, but if we can be positive over 12 months, then that means that we're doing our job right. We do have some rough spots here and there, but we're long votality traders, which means that we bleed a little bit of time decay, but overall we do well during periods of volatility.

So in a room full of opportunities, we’re a speck of dust, but we are the king of the hill on that speck of dust. That’s how we approach our trades or what we call the spread options, where we have monthly delivery of futures. You can treat any two months, April versus May or May versus June, and then we trade options on those spreads. So it is extremely esoteric, as you can imagine, that's what options on spreads are.

Of course, there have been ups and downs as with all things, but thankfully I'm as committed to my charitable activities as I am to my day job. Just continue along with all the vagaries and the ups and downs in trading. Thankfully, I give away millions of dollars every year and that's what keeps me going.

So my “so-called” superpower is I’m a fast thinker, and I can pick up things that don’t fit together. So building a strategy based on my skillset essentially means that no one can beat me in my game because I’ve created it based on my terms. Even though I can't control the outcome, if I can play the game in my favor, the result will generally fall in our favor, hence the consistency of what we're doing.”
