When I was eighteen, I began high-frequency trading and joined a 15-person startup around 2001, long before high-frequency trading was a thing. I was planning to join the Air Force Academy until I learned from my friend’s father about high-frequency trading. I had no idea what it was, and I was astounded by how different it was from anything else I'd seen and that there are so many opportunities for exceptionally bright people.


… I left just as we were about to complete the acquisition to become a 1,500 public company. While I was doing that, I started putting together boutique investment funds. Then, about five years ago, I founded Busted Ventures, a venture capital fund that only invests in B2B FinTech.


For a long time, I was a crypto enthusiast. Cryptocurrency is evolving at such a rapid pace that it is both fascinating and has tremendous potential. It wasn't until decentralized finance or DeFi came along. It is the process of taking tasks or services traditionally performed by financial institutions and doing them in a decentralized, permissionless way. As a result, there are no people. You don't have the bureaucracy, executive compensations, or golden parachutes. It's a much more efficient method, and there is considerable money to be made in financial institutions that are serviced inefficiently."
