Anna Bailey is the CIO and Portfolio Manager for HedgeAct's Life Settlements Waterford Fund.
“There's always a new challenge, whether it’s buying policies and negotiating, or reviewing life expectancy reports, which ones to use, which ones to trust and not trust, how deals get closed, how to determine fraud, and just understanding how transaction itself works. You have the challenge that come later on with checking the insurance and then when it matures. There's just as much art to this as math and science so you need someone who's paying attention to tail and maturity risks.

The problem with life expectancy is everyone seems to believe that it’s a hard number, but no, it’s a number that's on a curve and you got a 50/50 shot. Either they're going to go before or after and generally, when we're looking at policies, we try to measure that risk.
The concept of a life settlement is so foreign to people just because they don't understand it. But now that many medical records are almost all digital, I think that there's going to be more efficient when it comes to life expectancies.
My superpower is making sure that deals get done, and they get done efficiently. We make sure that we are not putting our investors in harm's way. When investors ask me why they should invest with us, I always say, you're hiring us to be a good steward of your money.”
